1979, Molina de Segura-Murcia-Spain

At the age of 13, Virginia took charge of the direction of Hims Mola Children’s Choirs of Molina de Segura.

She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano and Harmony awarded by Murcia Conservatory. While she was trained by Pilar and Pedro Valero in 1999 she was awarded a scholarship by Murcia Seneca Foundation to continue her studies abroad.

That same year she started her degree studies in Orchestral Conducting at Vienna Conservatory with Reinhard Schwarz and Georg Mark as her teachers. She completed her degree in June 2003 conducting Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird which lead her to graduate with first class honours with distinction.

In 2000 she joins Vienna’s Singverein Chor with which she has given several concerts throughout Austria and Europe.

In February 2003 she conducted the premiere of Deux ex Machina  by Markus Preisl with the Contemporary Music Ensemble of Vienna Conservatory. That same year she premiered Winterlandschaft by Stefan Höll and officially presented herself in the Region of Murcia serving as conductor of Murcia Symphonic Orchestra at Victor Villegas Auditorium and Congress Centre. Said concert was recorded by Spain’s National Radio.

In January 2004 she was named Young Woman of the Year by Murcia’s Council of Youth and was appointed Bertrand de Billy’s assistant conductor at Barcelona’s Gran Teatro del Liceu for two wagnerian pieces: Siegfried and The Twilight of the Gods. In the 2005/6 season she served as Assistant Conductor of Barcelona Symphonic Orchestra and Catalonia’s National Orchestra, a job she combined with the artistic direction of the Orchestra of Catalonia’s Higher School of Music. In the season 2006/7 she was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Orchestra of Valencia together with Yaron Traub.

In October 2007 she toured Spain with the Wiener Kammerorchester

In April 2009 she was named one of the Young European Talents by the European Committee of the Regions. In December of that same year she toured the USA and gave concerts in the McCormick Place of Chicago and New York’s Lincoln Center, among other.

In April 12010 she performed at the Proms of Vienna together with the Orchestra of the Conservatory of Vienna.

She has conducted Zarzuelas such as La del Manojo de Rosas and Entre Sevilla y Triana both produced by Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo in August 2009 and April 2010 respectively.

In March 2011 she conducted El Barbero de Sevilla within the Opera Series of Murcia’s Victor Villegas Auditorium under the direction of José Carlos Plaza.

In July 2010 she conducted the premiere of Toni Parea’s Amb els peus a la Lluna at the Grec Festival of Barcelona with the stellar performance of María Bayo. It was a coproduction of Madrid Royal Theatre, Teatro de la Maestranza of Seville, Bilbao’s Arriaga Theatre and Barcelona’s Gran Teatro del Liceu.

She has successfully conducted the Montpellier National Orchestra, the Singapore National Orchestra, Wiener Kammerorchester, the  Symphony Orchestra of Biel (Switzerland), Graz Symphony Orchestra (Austria), Vienna Conservatory Orchestra, Spain National Orchestra, Barcelona  Symphony Orchestra, Catalonia National Orchestra, Bilbao  Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia, Navarra  Symphony Orchestra, Valencia Orchestra,  Vallés Symphony Orchestra, Barcelona 216  Orchestra,  Symphony Orchestra of Principado de Asturias, Oviedo Philharmonie, Granada Orchestra, Córdoba Orchestra, Málaga Philharmonie, Liceo Conservatory Orchestra, Menorca Orchestra, and Santo Domingo National Orchestra where she was appointed Assistant Director of the Festival together with Philippe Entremont.

She has worked with soloists such as Javier Perianes, Judith Jauregi, Fazil Say, María Espada, Jose Antonio López, Gustavo Peña, José Ferrero, Cristina Faus, María Bayo, Pablo Ferrández, Christian Poltera, Jesús Reina or Joaquín Riquelme among other.

And with stage designers and directors such as Paco Azorín, Jose Carlos Plaza, Curro Carreres o Emilio Sagi.

She currently serves as lead conductor of The Murcia Region Youth Orchestra and Lead Conductor and artistic director of The Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra.
